41st Annual Pediatric Nephrology Seminar
The 41st Miami Pediatric Nephrology Seminar will take place March 6 through 9 at the Alexander All-Suite Oceanfront Resort in Miami Beach.
The Miami Pediatric Nephrology Seminar, founded by Jose Strauss, M.D., 41 years ago, is a unique international gathering of pediatric and internal medicine nephrologists, pediatricians, pediatric urologists, transplant surgeons, renal pathologists, nurses, nutritionists and allied health professionals from all over the world, sponsored by the Miller School and Holtz Children’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
This year, there will be an optional Pre-Seminar First Pediatric Renal Pathology Course directed by the renowned pathologist Laura Barisoni, M.D. This intensive, two-day comprehensive course will cover all aspects of nephropathology starting with sample processing and transitioning to glomerular, tubular and cystic, as well as systemic and metabolic disorders affecting pediatric and young adult patients. The course will be held on March 6 and 7.
The Pediatric Nephrology Seminar will start with a combined session on Friday afternoon. The seminar will have another exciting scientific program with eight sessions covering cystic renal diseases and clinical anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract, clinico–pathologic correlations, chronic kidney diseases and hypertension, reno-cardiac interactions, nutrition and growth in CKD (workshop), dialysis/CRRT and transplant challenges, and a session devoted to fellowship training issues and research initiatives.
At the end of the seminar, a workshop will be held for live CRRT procedures conducted at Holtz Children’s Hospital for selected participants. The seminar will feature 20 distinguished guests and faculty, and 12 local faculty members who will provide expertise and cordial exchanges, including several panel discussions and “meet the professor” luncheons.
