Other Publications

First, here is a Festschrift in Honor of J. K. Ghosh …Subhashis Ghosal and I were co-editors. It was a wonderful experience.

Clarke, B. and Ghosal, S. (2008) Pushing the Limits of Contemporary Statistics: Contributions in honor of Jayanta K. Ghosh. IMS Collection Volume 3.

The first paper is an overview of Jayanta’s contributions.

Next, here are two unpublished technical reports I’m rather proud of:

Clarke, B.and Junker, B. (1991) Inference from the product of marginals from a dependent likelihood.

    And

Clarke, B. and Barron A. (1989) Information theoretic asymptotics of Bayes methods.

Note: I only have the troff file and I have no idea how to compile it anymore. Anyone out there who can help me?

Then there’s my book; here’s the cover.

Feel free to contact Springer to buy it.

Yes, there’s a solutions manual (in preparation):

Severinski, C., Fokoue, E., Zhang, H., and Clarke B. Solution manual for Principles and Theory for Data Mining and Machine Learning.

But you’ll have to convince Springer to give it to you! They only give it out to instructors.

Sadly, there’s an errata sheet for the book…It’s in preparation too. It will be posted as soon as we’re sure we’ve got all the howlers.

Here are some other comments and discussions I’ve contributed:

Clarke, B. (1999). Discussion of the papers by Rissanen, and by Wallance and Dowe. The Computer Journal, Vol. 42, No. 4, pp. 338-339.

Clarke, B. Comment on "Non-Informative Priors" by Ghosh, J.K. and Mukerjee, R. In: Bayesian Statistics 4: Proceedings of the Fourth Valencia International Meeting on Bayesian Statistics, 207-208. Clarendon Press, Oxford.

Clarke, B. Comment on “Objective Bayesian Analysis for the Multivariate Normal Model” by Sun,D. and Berger, J. In: Bayesian Statistics 8: Proceedings of the 8th Valencia International Meeting on Bayesian Statistics, Bayarri M. et al. Eds. 560-561. Oxford Univ. Press, Oxford.

And some nontechnical material about the statistical World more generally:

    Clarke, B. (2003). A conversation with Constance van Eeden, Liaison, 17-4, 28-35.
    (Available at: http://www.ssc.ca/main/about/history/vaneeden_e.html .)

Clarke, B. (2007). Statistics: We should be Leading not Serving. IMS Bulletin, Vol 36 No. 6, 8-9.

Clarke, B. and Clarke J. (2009) Unsubmitted: Thoughts on Refereeing. IMS Bulletin, Vol. 38, No. 6, 8-9.

Finally, here are two chapters I wrote that did appear in my book. They’re pretty rough so use the results at your own risk.

One is called Parsimony, the other is called Complexity.

Oh yeah: If you’re a publisher…Feel free to ask me about polishing them up so they might be a useful book.
