To all faculty, staff, and students of the Miller School of Medicine,

For several decades the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has been a dedicated partner with Jackson Memorial Hospital. We share a commitment to providing the very best of care to all in our community, to training the next generation of physicians and other health care professionals, and to bringing the newest research discoveries directly to the care of patients. I want to emphasize, without any ambiguity, that this commitment to partner with Jackson Memorial Hospital remains the highest priority in our minds, hearts, and mission. The current financial environment that we all find ourselves in has created new stresses that will challenge us to implement new ways to do business and ensure that we remain economically viable and in the best position to sustain our care mission and responsibilities.

The School of Medicine leadership, in collegial partnership with the Jackson Memorial Hospital leadership, is engaged in frank but friendly discussions with the aim and expectation of creating new ways to sustain our long-term partnership. This is a time for our two institutions to remain united and supportive of each other, and Dr. Roldan and I have made this commitment.

Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Miller School of Medicine have been partners, for the greater good of this community, for decades in the past and we will be so for decades in the future. I know that I can depend on each and every one of our colleagues to support this goal. This community and its leaders should not and will not take Jackson Memorial Hospital for granted.
