Hands Speak Safety
By Aliye Runyan, Miller School third-year student
“We set upon a course of healing
So that once again
Their being is restored.”
-Asclepidae
Her hands speak volumes
They speak
Of small victories
Of large losses
Of quieted children
And calmed grandfathers
Her hands, perhaps more worthy
Of saving a life
Than her mind
Sometimes
Even as her wisdom repairs
Those broken
Her hands deliver
The courage
Strength,
Serenity,
That could mean the difference
Between helplessness and hope
Her hands speak
Her hands speak safety.
