Katz Family Division of Nephrology and Hypertension

Department of Medicine

Marie Anne Sosa, M.D.At the Katz Family Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, we have a comprehensive team of clinicians and researchers dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art patient care and conducting groundbreaking research.

Our clinicians serve in four hospital settings: the University of Miami Hospital, Bruce W. Carter - Miami VA Medical Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Miami Transplant Institute. We provide outpatient care to the large, unique, and diverse communities of South Florida and the international community that comes to Miami seeking the best kidney care.

Our clinics specialize in general nephrology, with additional clinics focusing on specific areas such as glomerular diseases, hypertension, nephrolithiasis, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), and kidney transplantation. Recognized by the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation as a Center of Excellence, being one of 28 Centers of Excellence named nationwide and one of just two in Florida, our PKD clinic offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and individualized care for patients and families affected by PKD.

We have physicians with expertise in hypertension, and we are part of the multidisciplinary team of specialists within the University of Miami Health System Comprehensive Hypertension Center, the only American Heart Association-certified comprehensive center in Florida. We also offer various dialysis care options, including in-center dialysis and our growing home modalities, such as home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. At the Miami Transplant Institute, we provide care for patients with end-stage kidney disease, both before and after kidney transplantation.

The Peggy and Harold Katz Family Drug Discovery Center supports investigators advancing research projects in the Division of Nephrology. Our faculty contributes to innovative clinical and funded translational research in kidney disease to improve patients' lives.

Our faculty is also committed to educating the next generation of clinicians and investigators in nephrology. We teach Ph.D. students, medical students, residents, and fellows from all parts of the country, focusing on training them to deliver culturally competent care.
